Recruiters should be paid more than lawyers
We solve our clients’ biggest challenge, let’s get paid for it
If your clients can’t get the right people in their business, it doesn’t matter how good their legal documents are.
Ask any top CEO and they’ll tell you the key to their success is the people they have around them. And the hardest part of building a business? Finding the right people.
And yet… when companies turn to an expert recruiter to help them solve their biggest and most important problem, they pay much lower fees than they do for legal advice.
Of course, it’s always been this way. But ‘this is the way it’s always been done’ is not a good enough reason to keep doing something.
No matter where the market has gone over the past few years, one constant has been the challenge of finding people who can transform a business. These people are worth millions of pounds to business owners; they set strategy, double sales, negotiate acquisitions, and build revolutionary products.
And yet… the majority of recruiters shy away from talking about the huge value they create. They talk about cost savings on job boards, and the pain of having to look through a few CVs.
We can change this.
We can become seen as true consultants, worth as much - or more - than legal advisors or management strategists. We can sit down with business leaders to share our expertise, and help them take their business to the next level.
To make this change, we need to talk about the real value we create.

P.S. I’m sure lawyers would make the argument that they’ve spent so much longer training than most recruiters, so they deserve to be paid more.
The problem with this argument (sorry lawyers) is that clients don’t care about your costs, they want to know what value they can get from you. Which brings me back to my point: when we’re solving critical people problems we’re creating huge amounts of value.
