Two-thirds of recruiters who responded to my recent poll expect their prices to go up this year. Almost one-third expect it to stay the same, with a mere three percent expecting their prices to go down.
Interestingly, I ran the same poll on LinkedIn and people were a lot more pessimistic (perhaps if they read these emails they’d be planning to put their prices up!).
51% of LinkedIn voters said their prices would go up - still a pretty positive number, but way down on the Added Value poll - with 39% saying they’d stay the same and 5% expecting a drop.
The final 6% on LinkedIn said they didn’t know. Now, no Added Value readers selected ‘don’t know’ - perhaps I can claim to give recruitment leaders more clarity in their predictions!
So those are the numbers, but what do they tell us about the state of the market?
1. The majority of recruiters aren’t standing still. And if you’re expecting your prices to stay the same, you might fall further behind.
2. Virtually no recruiters expect their prices to drop this year. This is most likely due to the ongoing challenges companies are facing when hiring. Even if recession hits, there will be new recruitment challenges that will justify our fees.
3. I joked about these Added Value emails boosting your prices, but there are more resources to help recruiters improve their fees… which hopefully creates more confidence in our value.
If you’re in the majority of recruiters expecting your prices to rise this year - or if you’re not sure your prices will go up, but want to find out what’s possible - simply reply to this email and we can arrange a consultation.

P.S. Public polls aren’t a great predictor of actual outcomes. Plus you have to wait 12 months to find out if these answers come true. But, they do serve as a measure of confidence in the market right now.
It feels like recruiters who have found their niche and understand their value are pushing to get paid well for the great work they do.
